About Us

OUR MISSION

The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity that raises tax-deductible donations to support (a) legal scholarships for law students, aiming to increase the number of African-American lawyers and paralegals, (b) educational enrichment activities focused on law to inspire students to pursue a career in the legal profession, (c) pro bono legal services through organizations that cater to the minority community, (d) specialized training for practicing lawyers to enhance their ability to provide pro bono legal services, and (e) to a lesser extent, other general educational and charitable activities.

A Positive Impact on the Community

The Foundation's members, who are also part of JLTLA, frequently staff the training sessions funded by the Foundation, especially those organized by JLTLA. Moreover, the Foundation hosts an Annual Scholarship and Awards Gala to honor achievements in the legal community.

Having raised hundreds of thousands of dollars, the Foundation is dedicated to funding law school scholarships for minority law students, including African-American lawyers. Recently, it funded a day-long series of panels on law school and the legal profession for minority high school students at the Dallas Bar Association headquarters, which featured tours of the Dallas County courts. Additionally, the Foundation sponsored a local high school writing and oratorical competition based on the MLK I Have a Dream Essay Contest, where several local judges evaluated the submissions and stipends were awarded to the participants.

The Foundation also facilitated a week-long field trip to Washington, D.C. for local high school students, enabling them to engage in seminars and mock government events with leading government officials and journalists. Furthermore, the Foundation has organized numerous educational enrichment activities, including community workshops on the juvenile justice system, housing, voting rights, and other topics of interest to the Dallas community. We have also supported continuing legal education for member attorneys and provided pro bono legal services to those in need.
